Stainless steel chassis?

Hello I am new here as I am considering building a locost.
I am a tig welder by trade and i have in my possesion a tig inverter suitable for welding stainless.
I have thought about constructing a chassis out of stainless as there are no painting ,coating, rust worry's.
But I havent priced stainless box yet,is it a lot more expensive than steel, and are there any other problems I may encounter other than stainless being a bit harder to drill and cut?

I know someone on the other list is building a stainless chassis, so its feasible
A "bit" harder ? It'll probably feel a fair bit more harder than a "bit" when you're cutting and grinding
It would look cracking though, no paint, just a shiny stainless chassis, classy
Post on the Yahoo list asking who it is who's building a stainless chassis, then ask him for pointers, its definitely started, dunno about finished but its off the drawing board...

Tony, that would be Dr Hess.

Kenny,
With your background Stainless should be no problem (except harder work and more expensive), anyone else who isn't experienced in stainless I'd say forget it

I work in the food industry and work a lot with stainless, it would look good but i find that where it is used in machinery subject to vibration it is very suscepible to stress cracking. The plus side is that it would be easier to see any cracks that develop.I would not use it for wishbones or other suspension parts.
