Made by someone else!
I know it’s cheating but how much do you think I should be charged for someone to build a chassis for a beetle that will hold an MR2 engine and
running gear?
Building the body and tuning the engine is more what Im into so Im at a loss until this vital piece of work is done.
Is there anyone in the UK who would do this sort of work that you can recommend?
Thanks
Ben Tuckwell

Ben, this is very much a "depends" kind of question.
If say you had it designed and tooled and wanted 20 off, then expect to pay around 500 each....
If you had it designed without tooling and wanted just one I'd say more like 1500/2000
or if you just have a rough idea and no design then plan on something like 10000 upwards. (seriously...design costs money)
These are just my opinion of what I would expect to be charged for a decent job.
HTH and eager to see other opinions on this.

I know a chap in Cornwall who would be ideal for this, he makes all kinds of automotive stuff including nascar chassis for the USA. He has an unit on
Water ma trout industrial estate in Helston, next to richard Oakes of Nova, Dutton Sierra, Blackjack fame (I think he designed most kit cars in the
'80's) if you need a number, I could look it up for you

There is a guy called Ray Ramsey of Rayvern hydraulics http://rayvern.bigfathead.com/index.php who has made most of the low riders in this country and
used to be big in the beetle world, designing the most tricked out bugs. He is willing to do it and his work looks good but I really want to gauge the
sort of money this will cost elsewhere so when I go to get a quote I will know if Im being ripped off or not?
Alan I appreciate your comments and it sounds like in still in the budget I set aside. I take it most people who read this are in agreement? Mark if
you have the guys number I would appreciate it as it would be good to get a few different prices and opinions.
A guy on here “Rooty” has done something similar (mid-engined beetle) and from a few of his photos I can see the sort of shape, strength, and work
that is involved. So Im under no illusion that it is a big job and well out of my league for a first project. (maybe in a few years)
Thanks again in advance
Ben
