fitting cbr engine
hi i put my engine in the chassis. the chassis was flat on the floor and the engine. the sprocket wa 10in from the floor. and the top of the engine
was 10in above the top rail.does this sound right or do you have to mount it sticking out the bottom a bit. anyone got the size from the top rail to
the under side of the bonnet.

Hi Adam
I don't know about your engine and chassis specifically, but it is commonly accepted that the engine hang lower than the chassis rails.
The amount it hangs lower is usually decided by the height of the bodywork in a lot of cases.
If you measured the height of your chassis, state what bodywork you are going to use and the height of the engine, then someone could compare like for
like with you.
For eg an MK with 919 hangs about an inch and a bit (prob about 30mm) lower than the chassis rails, but on mine the 919 is only about 5-10 lower than
the chassis rails...

do you ever have any probs with it hanging lower then the car. like over speed bumps and pot holes.

Hi on the indy it hangs out the bottom, if I were doing it I would have it as high in the chaise as I could as to not have it hanging out of the
bottom
As I have already cracked the sump on a speed bump

My ST1100 hangs about 80mm below the chassis rail!!! That's why I'm fitting a dry sump... I haven't cracked the sump yet but I run
quite a bit of preload on the front shocks (and therefore the front of the car runs quite high). Not the best option for handling but until I dry sump
it, it's the only option...

Yeah the CBR 1000 engine is quite tall really.
Ive gone for a flat bonnet with no bulge and mine sticks out a good 3" below the chassis bottom rail - maybe more.
Makes speedbumps pretty much impossible and so needs some careful planning of routes - when I actually go far enough to need a route...!
My advice would be to sacrifice some of the centre of gravity issues for a bit of extra practicality and peace of mind by raising the engine and
bulging the bonnet.
