Bob,

Were you driving it hard when it went? Or did it just fail to work one day?

If it's the first, then the thermal overload may have cut in and not reset - or you may have burnt something out.

Otherwise, look for internal fuses (on my welder there's one tucked into the wire-spool bit - quite hard to find). It does sound like you've lost power to the whole box (any lights showing? Fan running?).

A few places to start...
...good luck!

David

The internal connection for the earth connector is usually a bit of aluminium strap on the lower end welders (sorry!). This can, over a period of time, degrade due to constant heating and cooling and fail to carry the current. This will give symtons of low power, awful pentration, and the wire breaking up before it gets to the workpiece so you end up with a small hedgehog instead of a weld. I replaced mine with a heavier piece of stainless steel. You will also get over the other possible reason, the aluminium is bolted to the brass connector - enough said!

Hope this helps you out
