which is wider

gettin to start my build soon was going to go with the mc sorley 442 as i'm using volvo donor and its a a tad wider than a mk2..

but was wondering if the haynes roadster was any wider and just change back end to live axle. Cant check the book as the mrs has had a tidy up and doesnt know where shes put them all

I think the Haynes is +2 everywhere, while the 442 is +4 across the tub which would make it 2" wider than the haynes chassis at the rear (unless I've forgotten how to count of course )

Cheers

Alex

volvo axle is narrower than the 7 series , it would fit the book chassis .

ive built a 240 axle for teh ppc mk2 escort , with some fwd offset alloys itll fit in there without bubble arches .

turboed or not ?

nah no turbo (yet) just keepin it basic and cheap..

But it looks soo much wider than the english in my mk 1 cant measure it at mo cos all the scrap thats gettin sold to pay for box section is in the way

Are you keeping the 5stud pattern on the ppc car or is their a cheap way to put it onto ford pattern wheels?

use the volvo running gear all round , youll find theres no shortage of 15in wheels , the min you can have is 14in for teh size of the brakes .

modify the front struts to suit , its not worth mucking about with to fit ford wheels .

your in northern ireland ?

yip in northern ireland!!

funny I did think about putting the running gear into the mk1 escy at a time just to get it off the floor but thought it would be too much hassle to get front end sorted..

seen lovely estate dunno which model but the ones after the 9/7 series when they went a bit less square, in the scrap yard today when i was leaving after dropping off a lot of scrap steel if it werent for lack of funds woulda tried bringing it home looked mint bar the windscreen was cracked!!!!

theres a lad in NI i sent some parts to .

hes breaking a 7 series at the moment .

i know the old ovlovs are pretty scarce over there .

some of the rally boys are using the volvo axle nowadays .

all the 9 series were less and less square as time went n - sure it wasnt FWD 850 ?

Mr RSport, do you have any pictures of modified Volvo struts? I would be interested in seeing how it was done.

the biggest hindrance using a 740 is the steering rack are all PAS .altho it seems easy to shorten , i used a sierra one high ratio , the steering arms are the same thread as the volvo track rod ends .

Thankyou.
Just what I am after, but unfortunately that would be frowned upon by the local authorities here :-(
