You've got a 4 cylinder, 4 stroke just like the majority of cars out there. So that's normal...

I' ve not heard of one that isn't based on a beetle chassis, apart from an abortion that Banham were offering a good few years ago. That
was based on a Metro, but it didn't (couldn't) work because of the rear wheels, porsche replica needs big wheels and tyres (not low
profiles) to look right and the Metro suspension couldn't accommodate them. The pics in his adverts were of a real 356

Yes, Mr Henderson is spot on, and for this purpose (slowish wind in the hair motoring) a shortened beetle floorplan is perfectly adaquate. I'd
be tempted to buy one already done rather than a rusty beetle though. Should still only cost a few hundred quid. My mate just sold his spare Karmann
Ghia floorpan which is much more rare for £300.

I was unaware of that particular Banham kit, but the Skoda would be a much better donor than the Metro

Looking into the Rapide though it seems a little rare these days!
About 130bhp in them though - That's a lot pokier than I would have thought!

How about a Westy 11?
I fancy one of those next myself, but maybe a bike engine rather than the A series...

I knew a bloke that built one of these. Looked a lovely car when finished....but he wasn't very complimentary on the quality of the kit - took a
lot of fettling to get right....

i re commisioned a skoda based kit recently and it did look ok but the pedals were too far offset and it was a bit poor to drive . good quality shell
though it weighed 925 kg on my brake rollers

Get a beetle based body and the plans for Rorty's tube beetle chassis.

I was going to suggest buying a shell and fabricating a tube chassis to suit, but Rorty's backbone chassis is a good thought if you strengthen
it as he suggests.

To quote Wikipedia,
"While the 356's body was an original design by Porsche employee Erwin Komenda, its mechanicals (including engine, suspension and chassis)
were derived from the Volkswagen."

Porsche did change a lot of parts during the 356 production so it isn't really a beetle anymore.
Although a Beetle donor is better for a 356 replica then a Cortina is for a Cobra...
I would love to have 356 replica coupe one day. Are there any made?
