shocker brackets

does anyone have any -precise measurements for where the shocker brackets mount to the chassis and wishbones.some photos would be nice to see how they look but not under load (with the car on stands)my lower wishbones look like there hanging down about 30 degrees from the lower chassis rails when viewed from the front .the shocks i have are zeemering and are about 13"from bolt ho;e to bolt hole any advice would be great as i would realy like to get the front end boxed up and this has slowed me down

at 30 degrees, you have just built a lococost Bigfoot car that could run over small cars. I think you are exagerating as most suspension travel is I guess over 10 or so degrees total......





I dont think there is a 'standard' place for these.

Its gonna depend on if you ar using std wishbones, the shocker length, the spring rate, where you put the brackets on the bones, your engine and car weight.

You need somewhere to decide how you fix the ride height. If you fit the brackets in a specific 'std' place, you may find your car sits low or high.

If I were you, Id wait until you get the engine in and the car to a running chassis stage, THEN fit the top mounts for the shocks.

Note - the more angled the shocks are, the greater they will be compressed, and the effective spring rate reduced. You may find your car sits too low if you shoot your bolt too soon.

I ended up doing mine twice. Fix in place with strong temporary welds, and if the car sits right, fully weld.

as always, suspension issues are a minefield.....

The Zeemeride shocks are known for being way too long, and i thought they had stopped selling them for Locosts as they knew they weren't any good.

You need a 12" shock. See www.gtstuning.co.uk for correct shock lengths.

Sounds like youve got the latest Zeemers the same as me Hayzee,which are longer than the old ones,no problem tho you'll have to remount the top bracket so that the bottom of it is flush with the botom of the top chassis rail.The rears are a problem in as much as you'll have to attach the lower bracket directly to the rear of the axle with the bottom of the bracket about 1/2 inch below the top of the axle then make a strengthening gusset from the bracket to the axle.
This worked for me after several goes of repositioning but as steve says best if you tack em first then drop the car with the engine in before you fully weld.
My fronts now hang about 15 degrees with the car lifted.

make sure they are strong tacks!

my zeemers are 3 years old and are book length.

HOWEVER

if you are making a car wider than norm, with sierra type hubs, they would be better longer.

My 6 ins wider car had to have quite long box section top shock brackets due to the 'book' shocks being at least an inch - inch and a half too short.

zeemer length might be fine on a wider book chassis............
at the front at least.
