Engine Position
I spent Christmas getting my McSorley 7+4 chassis tack welded, which didn’t go to badly and gave me something to sit in and go broommm, broommm!
Yesterday I started to try to see how I will fit in everything, including the Ford v6 2.8. This has resulted in a number of questions to do with the
engine position.
The engine seems to fit ok in the bay, but I can’t get it back far enough, the driver’s side bell housing & clutch lever get in the way. I can
move the engine forward, but then the gear lever is then too far away to be comfortable. I can move the upright to the right of the bell housing, I
am afraid that my size 10s will not fit onto the pedals into the foot well.
How have others dealt with this? I could keep the engine forward and make up a lever arrangement to bring the gear lever backwards. This would give
me the added benefit of more space at the back of the engine for the exhausts etc.
The other issue is to do with the engine height. Since deciding on my specification, I have discovered the problems of the height of the v6.
Is the sump easily modified to reduce the height by an inch or two?
Should I change now (whilst the chassis is still only tacked) to the higher McSorley chassis?
Any views would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
RPS

RPS,
If it's any help, I'm using Rover V8, and have mounted the engine/box 1.5" offcentre to the nearside.

RPS,
I've done a +4" (ish) chassis and have managed to get my Pinto with Type 9 all the way back.
I did move the footwell 'H' rails outwards about 10mm each and made them of 19mm.
It seems fine even tho I have size 12s!
Cheers,
James

James,
Did you modify the clutch release bracket in any way? It sticks out an inch or so from the bellhousing so i was wondering if a modification (i.e.
moving it with a bend forward) would help.
Thanks,

Stop it - you're making me blush!
But seriously though, folks, my extension is only designed for Ford type 9 boxes (or very similar). I don't know what's being used
here....
cheers,
David

my type 9 and ford V6 cologne went in OK once I made a small mod to the driver footwell.
I had to move the vertical RHS beam at the front of the tunnel 'inboard' of the panelling - ie into the foot area by an inch - to get a
bit more clearance to get the engine back.
I guess my head is about 6 ins from the foot well wall. I have seen installations a lot more forwards.

David,
Looked at your gearlever mod's (I think I have the same box) and it seems very good, much more sophisticated than I was thinking of. If I only
had a lathe!

Upgraded or deformed?
7 out of 10 people suffer with hemorrhoids. Does that mean the other 3 enjoy them?
