chassis packs on ebay - anyone assembled one before?

hey all

For people who havent seen, there is a company selling CAM cut chassis packs on ebay. I bought mine and thought they were brilliant - until now.

The metal is cut from the McSorley plans, and all the 1" section went together easily and accuratly, had no problems.

Im struggling on the transmission tunnel, from the way the bars are labelled up ive deducted that its using the standard book plans for the tunnel, is this correct?

ive got a,b,l and m all in fine. ive assembled all the k's and c and d together and tacked into possitions but this is where i now struggle. j and i are totally wrong angles, h and G are too short and end up about an inch too high due to wrong angles, and O and N are too short again.

has anyone else used these kits? did you have any problems with them?

not sure which one you have but a guy i work with had their roadster set and it was perfect. were aircraft engineers and he mearused a few bits up with some big big digital verniers and it was accuarte to within 0.08 mm and the angles were perfect. i know he tried to get a plus four chassis out of them and they weren t doing them at the time so is it something they ve just started?!

hey

not my specialist chosen subject but you are building the book chassis? have you got the actual book or are you using the mcsorely plans that are on that site?

Ive got both the mcsorley plans and the book.

The mcsorley plans dont lay out the transmission tunnel, so im assuming it uses the book layout.

So had loads of fun trying to sort out tunnel over the weekend, book seems to skim over this section so does not help much. The pre cut kit is a bit wrong g,h,e and f I had to modify to get close to the book, the kit was 98% right the angles and lengths made it a pleasure to put together. Luke if you want some pics happy to supply

If it's any help, I am building the +442, however, I'm doing it from scratch not a kit so slightly different. I didn't bother with the book for the tunnel because at the end of the day it will vary slightly depending on what else you do regards engine etc.

I just 'winged it' with mine and it seems fine (although I haven't got the propshaft yet! But I'm sure it will be fine )

Dan,

I emailed them pics, had no reply for two weeks so rang them on wed.

Guy said the pics weren't clear and to post him the pieces. I refused so he then asked to measure all the pieces and email him what I've got. If I'm doing that I may as well just go get the steel and cut it all myself! So I've given up on them.

Does anyone know what mcsorley used as plans for the transmission tunnel? The pdf doesn't cover it so I'm assuming its the book dimensions?

You can make the tunnel a lot better than the book.

For a start, if you're not using a live axle and your diff' is fixed you can make it much smaller. Therefore making more space in the cabin.

You also only need to use 19mm tubing, again saving space and weight.

Cheers,
James

Thanks for the update luke, looks like it isn't worth the agro, I'll just buy the steel and cut myself

im now thinking of getting a length of 19mm tubing and bending the top edges out of that.

i can then use what 19mm box i have to make the rest of the tunnel.

will give me a curved edge to the tunnel.

As mentioned in my post on here, I made mine to suit my particular build/engine etc. I used 19mm RHS and will also add a couple of extra tubes for insurance against any mishaps with the prop

Shame you didn't get the response you should have from the chassis seller.

Good luck
