Metal thickness...
Hi all
I just ordered the metal for my chassis.
Our local stockholders did 25mm RHS with a wall thickness of 2.6mm which I thought was a bit heavy so I opted for 1" x 1.5 x 6000 ERW (which I
guess is 1/16th or there abouts)...
Is that maybe a bit thin?
Matt

1.6mm is standard for many kit cars. Sounds about right.

tube or pipe depending on if the ID or OD is specified iirc.
Then
ERW Electrical Resistance Welded
DOM Drawn Over Mandrel
or CDS Cold Drawn Seamless
depending on the way it's been made.

maybe not the right place to place it but go for thicker wall when you do the wishbones.
The locost book sates 1.6 mm the same a the chassis, but there is evidence that they bend and would be better being 3mm as per the haynes roadster.

Good choice! At least you can get started now, have you got a MIG yet? I have to fit new calipers to mine but I am sure this weekend will be free.
Oh, its Rolled Hollow Section!

I Have Barrys little 150 at the moment but managed to buy a Sealey Supermig 180 Turbo on ebay for £60 apparently it is fully working but we'll
see when I get it. I'd imagine Barrys will be best on the thinner tube anyway...
Invested in about a dozen hacksaw blades but can't find a protractor locally.
