Hmmm What to choose.
I'm confused, no not confused, just perplexed in which direction to go in.
I want to build a locost using a sierra donor. I've already got a G reg 2.0i GLS sitting in my garage ready for stripping (Yes I know its got an 8v
DOHC engine, which alot of you will probably say its a bad move!! But its got 125bhp straight from the tin. By the way it doesn't have disc brakes
all round.)
One problem, if it is one, is that I am 6'4" tall (hence the name BigDave) so getting into a se7en type car is a squeeze. Saying that I have sat in
one of MK's Indy cars and I must say, it fits quite well!
I have read alot of stuff on this site and in the Yahoo/Google groups and have come to this decision.
If I'm using a sierra donor I can choose the following routes.
1. Buy a MK Indy kit
2. Build a locost as to Rons book
3. Build a Tiger Avon with the new book out
I don't want to build a Tiger for the simple reason of I don't like the look of the chassis, it looks very blocky (not a constructive comment I
know) especially when compared to the MK chassis, the wishbones also look very stumpy and lack style again when compared to MK. Also I thought the
point of having a single donor car is that you use a single donor and not rely on cortina uprights and an escourt MkII steering rack!!!
If I use the plans from Rons book I think I'm going to have problems with me fitting in with the narrower track car and I can't seem to find any
decent plans for an IRS conversion.
So that seems to leave me with MK's offering, which seems fine from most aspects except, I want to build my own chassis and not have someone else
make it for me. (I've already asked MK and he won't sell the plans).
Can you see why I'm perplexed??
Can anyone give me any suggestions or pointers in which direction to go in?
Any comments would be welcome.

My only comment would be that I'm 6'6 and fit fine in both Merlin and Conrod's book chassis'. Guess it depends on how wide you are but have you
actually sat in a book chassis and tried it for size?

im building another locost, my other one which i made is to the book. trouble is im six foot and i sit on it instead of in it.ive increased the width
by 4incs made my own irs[see pics] and i am using 2ltr DOHC G/box and diff,but im putting 2 45s on it to get rid of ford inlet man. knocks the hight
down, made my own inlet man. must be the best way if you can use one doner, if you want any info call me

This may give you some idea about the size of a standard Locost... I'm 6ft tall, and if I fit those thin seats you may have seen around I won't be
able to work the pedals properly!
I wasn't going to bother with adjustable seats, but I may have to think again...

Oops!
I forgot to mention Jim McSorley's plans - freely available on his site (can't remember the URL, but Jim reads this list).
They are Ron's drawings re-drawn to be over-size in various directions.
Generally reckoned to be accurate - certainly far more accurate than Ron's!

Dave,
Would also suggest you take a look at Leugo. If you are really concerned about size they are developing a car that's a foot longer, 6" wider (check
with them for details) and based wholey on the Sierra.

I was going to suggest the McSorley plans but then I remembered they're not IRS.
Take a look anyway at www.mcsorley.net/locost. Well worth a look even if you're not building your own chassis.

Why not build a McSorley chassis with a Tiger Avon rear end and MK wishbones. Oh and a plastic tank of course. Job done!
