Easy transport trailer for car body shells
Hi,
I thought this might be of some use to folk on here since as with many kit cars transport of body shells or like my Beetle is often left to dagging it
onto a car trailer or worse.
My bugs shell is soon off to get sandblasted so I needed a way of getting it there. So I knocked up this very simple trailer, you'll note it is
also along the lines of a small boat one, these can be picked up for less than £100 second hand. Once I'm finished with it for the car the
trailer will be converted to carry my dingy
The idea is to do all the bodywork finishing including paint spraying on this trailer then just drop the completed body onto the chassis without
risking damage. Tbh I think I'll even do the glass, headliner and wiring while it's still on the trailer as it's so easy for access
It was very easy for me to mount the body to the chassis as all I did was take the wheels off the trailer, slide it under the shell, bolt it on and
then jack it up before putting the wheels on. Simple, no manhandling or winches, just me and a car jack
Hope this is some help, cheers.

Good idea.
Put a roof box on it and you have a light trailer like I did.

Yeah makes sence as roof boxes are very cheap second hand, though this trailer is a bit big of even the largest roof boxes.

Free to good home. Very similar trailer chassis, held together by big U bolts so it comes to bits and is adjustable. NO Wheels or suspension, though.

Snap!
I made this little trailer along very similar lines to carry my chassis to and from the plastic coating firm. The wheels and hitch were
'borrowed' from the little camping trailer in the picture. It was held together with nuts and bolts, so after use it was dismantled and
put in the garage (where I believe it is rusting nicely... )

Nice work both. I just spent some time this weekend helping to load a kit aeroplane (with wings folded) onto a similar trailer.
Cheers

You can do it quickly. You can do it cheap. You can do it right. – Pick any two.
