Scottish Independance

Given that Mr Salmon is still in power is it not time for Scotland to be an independant country?

The advantages to England are

Reduced Taxation (Scotland receives more per capita than England from the Treasury)
No more Labour Governments in Westminster. Historically it is Scottish MPs who hold the balance of power in Westminster and these are normally Labour MPs. It also means that there will be English & Welsh MPs only voting on English & Welsh affairs (not currently the case as Scotland has a different legal system and Scottish MPs vote on English issues).
No need to bail out RBS next time

The advantages to Scotland
Independance
Adopt the Euro
Align themselves with the Scandanavian Countries

Should we build a Hadrian type wall and have border controls?

Are you suggesting that the only place that Engerlund has border controls is the Scottish border

Doubt it unless you want independence and still want all the revenue from Scottish Oil and Gas. (2008 was 12.8 Billion)

Personally I think independence would be a terrible decision for both countries. Maybe 30 years ago but not now.

lol

I have a foot in both countries, as it where, my mum came from Creiff (a MacDonald!) and Dad comes from Cornwall.

Does this mean I will need two passports?

That was then....we English have sucked all the revenue out of the North Sea, time to cast the Jocks adrift...

I think you should wait til the oil completely runs out. That way, when things get REALLY bad (and they will), Canada can get all the good immigrants again, like my relatives.

If it happened Scotland would have to take on it's proportion of the national debt which would leave it fooked.

Seriously looking into becoming a heating engineer now just so the Visa I was offered is actually valid.

Thus as far as I'm concerned they can do whatever, the way I see it is there's only 2 ways out of this ****:
1. Vote me in
2. Leave

Scotland is going to be pretty rich in resources going forward. If hydro power comes off (and its looking more and more likley) and they scrap the ridiculous generator to grid surcharge anyone north of London has to pay, then scotland will have more than enough windy/wave driven coast lines to power themselves and export plenty too, whilst still not ruining the views.

as a politician, salmond (i prefer salmon right enough...) is making a lot of promises i don't think he can keep. he wants away from england, and thats it, and he'll tell everyone what they want to hear to get it. if it happens, scotland fucked, and so will england be too i imagine.

UK all the way for me!

as soctland goes, there's two main groups.
protestants, and catholics.
catholics generally want independance, protestands generally want to stay in the uk. which is the bigger group? thats what it'll come down to...

on a similar note, if the independance thing goes ahead, i reckon he'll try to worm his way into some sort of ireland arrangement...

nah, just wondered what sort of reaction it would get (there wasn't as much as i expected lol))

although, from people i have spoken to about it, there is maybe a bit of truth in it, as in there are distrinct groups who voted snp, and the others who say salmond can f*** off...

Easy to tell: The difference is that in N.I. they are actually seriously suggesting that they unify the schools, try suggesting that in the (former) industrial parts of Scotalnd you will suffer the wrath of the Roman Catholic Church and the Scottish Labour Party.

In these times of hardship when is someone in the Government going to have the balls to level out the funding per head across the whole of the UK (and that includes NI) Secondly the Scots do have hydro electric and have had it for many years now. I dont know why it has not caught on more South of the Border. AND until scotland IS independent then the oil belongs to everyone. Ime sick and tired of them saying its there's. Significantly they never bleat on about receiving more revenue per head of population now do they???
