Steering Column

Just trying to get all my parts ready to start my kit, just wondering what options on steering columns have been used, was looking at mk4/5 &6 escort columns for cheapness any drawbacks with these anyone know

Hi... welcome to the madhouse!
Please put your location in your profile, it helps a lot when offering help etc.

Most people are not using escort parts as Escorts are desirable and rebuildable classics nowadays.

I bought a new Escort rack from Rallydesign.co.uk, and used a Sierra Column, although you could use any column with a bit of messing about.

I would not be building from the original ron champion book. I would go for the New Haynes Roadster, as it has better options and none of the errors in the original book. This will save you a lot of grief by not working to the old books.

It depends on donor if you are going to try and go for age related and use as many parts as possible.

I used MX5 engine, box, loom, steering column and stalks with Sierra shortened rack. The column required some alteration to fit as I wanted but nothing too serious.
