Roll Over Bar: Opinions and advice wanted
Hi,
I have fitted my seats and now I am in the process of fitting in teh Rill-over bar. I am looking for alternative designs since i do not really
like the 'simple' rectangular shape type of bar. I think that thsi is a very important feature of teh car not only from a saftey aspect
but also from an asthetic point of view.
Any fancy designs that you are willing to share with me?
I like the twin loop design a lot but do not think that they add enough rigididity to the whole chassis. I would like to eventually weld it in place
and go for steel rtaher than stainless since I would want to paint it black anyway
Last but not least mine is a bike engined so weight is also a factor although safety comes first!

Properly constructed "cobra" hoops are no worse than the standard rectangular hoop IMO.
Unless whatever structure you use extends to the front of the passenger compartment (i.e. a full roll cage) it's not going to have much impact
on the rigidity of the chassis anyway (wide openings such as engine bay and passenger compartment really hurt rigidity).
The only other design I have seen is the Dax roll bar that is more like a triangular shape, with the highest point over the drivers head. Not too
great for any passengers though,

I have heard of a kit car accident recently where it had twin hooped roll bars. He went off the road, flipped over on soft ground and the hoops just
ploughed into deep into the earth, breaking his neck (he survived and is not paralysed).
I believe he feels that if he had a single roll bar across the car width, it would not have dug in so much.

Thanks guys, for your interest. I think that the 'rectangular' shape is much safer than and by teh way simpler to fbricat eif not lighter
as well!

The assymetric D*x one does it for me, but maybe not for the passenger

It really depends on the type of accident you have and where. God forbid.

If you are on the roads and you spin your car over, you don't deserve to be on the road as sooner or later you are likely to kill yourself or
someone else anyway!!
I can't see why a roll bar would be needed on the road but OBVIOUSLY it is sensible to have one for that one off rare occasion!

They're essential...
For leaning on and pushing
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I too will go the the asymentric roll bar where it peaks over the driver's head. As the others said, it will really offer little support to the
passenger.
However, mine will be bolt on. Should I ever do a track day, perhaps I'll get a proper, normal roll bar.
But this got me thinking...without arm restraints, a rollover situation would seem to sever the arms before crushing the head. Hopefully I'm
wrong.

It isn't unheard of for people to roll Sevens and the consequences would be pretty bad if you did and had no roll-bar.
There was a chap with and Indy who rolled his about a year ago. IIRC Snoopy put the pcitures of it on hear a couple of days ago.
