Cheap Angle Grinder
Don't know if anyone is after a new angle grinder, but http://www.bargaincrazy.com are selling a Skil 115mm grinder for £19.95 (postage is
£3.95). Seems like a pretty good price for what is a decent brand.
Did a bit of reserach and it looks like the actuall model is the one shown at

You can buy 115mm grinders for as little as a tenner, but you really do get what you pay for!
Whilst probably not quite in the same league as DeWalt and Makita, Skil make some excellent power tools.

Wouldn't worry about getting a cheap grinder. So long as it works when you get it it's fine. I regard them as a disposable item so at a
tenner or so a time it doesn't matter if you drop/break/burn it out.

Chris,
you haven't used the formula then:
w= price of cheap angle grinder (£)
x=price of expensive angle grinder (£)
y=life of cheap grinder (days)
z=life of expensive grinder (days)
if z(w/y)>x then expensive one is worth paying the extra out for
if z(w/y)<x then cheap one is cheaper to keep replacing.

Still got last one which is still going strong after 14 months but is fitted with wire brush and I couldn't find the collets to fit disc.Hence

They do a smart angle grinder stand too, turns your angle grinder into a nice chop saw lookalike, great for cutting up bits of tubing and stuff

i used cheap grinders to cut just about everything. I have been thro 3 115mm ones - one burnt out, 2 had gearbox failures.
4th one is still living.......but I have added to my tool box 30 quid 230mm grinder and it is a beast and copes with stuff a 115mm grinder struggles
with.
Its a two handed machine.

One of the large DIY stores (B&Q or Homebase) has been offering a Bosch 115mm grinder for about twenty quid over the last week I think. Take a
look in the national papers.

Grinders
I can't help much in Englsnd but here in the US of A there is a store called harbor fraight that sells chinese stuff and they have an angle
grinder (4 1/2" for about $15 US. Last about as long as any better brand I've used. I keep 3 for diffrent wheels and sanders. I just
replace them when they go out. I've had 2 for the whole time I've made 2 chassis and other projects. Can't beat that.

I've had a couple of cheap grinders (Hilka or somesuch)
In retrospect I don't think I'd bother again as the bearings turn to poo rather quickly and the vibrations given through the wrist while
attempting a modicum of delicacy put paid to clean grinds.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I was taking it for granted that the usa would be cheaper, cos things normally are! we get screwed. Was just pointing out to the brits that 15 quid
wasnt amazing. They all seem to be the same basic grinder with diff labels and colours!

Ah, okay sorry for the mistake. Too bad you fellows don't get the cheap deals like we do over here. Of course, our ports in Los Angeles is are
lot closer to China....
I wasn't actually suggesting that anybody import a grinder  I just assumed that you might have similar prices in the UK if you look around
enough. But that seems not to be the case

quite a lot of stuff in usa is dollar / pound same - 100 quid = 100 dollars.
just look at your car prices. much cheaper.
a neon is about 13,000 quid here - quite good for the spec - its about that in dollars in the states i think?

Just to add that my Skil grinder arrived on Friday. I am most impressed, it comes in a decent plastic storage case and come complete with a pair of
safety goggles, a set of ear defenders, a pair of riggers gloves and 3 grinding disks!

ah, thanks for the tip. I have the amusingly named FAG-115N grinder and a Ferm arc welder. I like the Ferm stuff, it seems well made and not pricey
from screwfix, though I'm no expert.
going along to homebase/halfords etc though, i recoil at their prices.
- the picture on the left is me and my trusty grinder, by the way

I got one of those NUTOOL grinders from MACRO as someone above sugested. I was stripping out the suspension for my Cobra at the time.
Second bolt it burned out.
I took it back to Makro... the woman on the desk said that they had got the whole batch returned. Every single one of them had burned out.
Whilst looking around with my credit in my hand I managed to find two angle grinders taped together in a special offer.
They were thirty pounds sterling and have been absolutely brilliant. One large 9 inch one and one standard smaller one. Manufactured by Dirt Devil I
believe.
The large one is so powerful I used it to cut concrete paving slabs when doing the patio. Absolutely brilliant.
So.... in conclusion, I would recommend this make but not the NUTOOL ones.
