Nice !
I used to race these in the Post Historics in 1993!
Should be scaryingly quick and handle like a go-kart !

That should be good fun when it's done!
What made you decide to turn the engine round, and not have it as it is in the bike?

Hey Paul,
With the engine in and stuff - how much room did you eventually have left?

PICS
Save everyone searching..
I like the drive layout, bit worried about the gearbox without cush drive on the diff tho...
The engine mounts don't look too solid to me, but I will stand corrected... I have seen 250cc karts break sturdier looking mounts than those!
No dry sump? Gonna accusump? Whats the plan?
Personally I would have gone mid engined rather than rear, but its your project not mine..

the frame is only tacked at the moment. it will be more sturdy when its seamed .as for the sump going to have the same sump as in the gtr kit car
baffled and modded pickup . also the gtr kit car at spire sports cars has no cush drive in the prop. and has done track day after track day and 8000
miles so no worries there then hope this helps a bit more o and thanks for the interrest hope you like it as much as i do but then im mad lol

8000 miles is nothing for a gearbox, just be prepared to replace a lot of expensive parts if it does break..
Kawasaki boxes are not amongst the best, and you wont know how much damage has been done to the box dogs until they fall off..
I doubt i will like it as much as you, as I would have used chain drive onto a reversing diff for adjustable ratios, better weight balance etc
etc...

g man imps handle like go carts so why would i want to mid mount it and make it all wrong .so that's why its meant to be in the back also
that's the hole point so it still looks like a imp

Actually they handle NOTHING like Karts..
As I have raced 250 Karts and driven fast imps I know the difference.. A kart corners on 2 front wheels and one rear wheel, an Imp, quite the opposite
I see your point about wanting it to look like an imp, but you said you hope I would like it as much as you, which I wouldnt in that configuration..
Merely my preference...
PS a Go-Kart is a wooden plank with pram wheels at either end..

I do not know what engines they had, probably did at the time, but we are talking 1982 here
Of course they handle pretty good for a rear engined car, and I have no problem with it rear engined, its your project not mine, I merely said that
mid engined would have been my preference, dry sump would be my preference (like i dry sumped mine) and cush drive to protect gearbox dogs.
Anyway, good luck with the project and let us know how it goes (like stink I should imagine)

If you decide later to use a cush drive, think about using some rubber bushes in an enclosed case..
It would replace the UJ and fit in the same space..
10k on the greetham, very nice, bet that sounded sweet..
Pretty much bike engine RPM, but then that CC designed engine was pretty much based on their race designs...
PS. I used to work for a Chrysler/Rootes specialist back in the 80's so became very familiar with the Imp, Chamois etc...
