surface rust removal
Hi Chaps,
I bought a chassis this weekend and it has been stored in a Concrete prefab (damp!) garage for about a year.
It has slight surface rust and slight pitting but nothing that will affect its structural properties.
I thought i would try a little experiement being the lazy begger that i am.
I submerged one end of the wishbone in a pot of coke in the passender footwell of my regular car and have just been out to see the result
You can see the destinct line upto where it has been submerged
Not bad for a few hours sitting on my arse in my office and not once getting my hands dirty.

ok had the same prob my self get the picher on photo archive make sure the picher is there right click on the photo and go to properties and you will
see a adderss there copy and paste this in to the mesage box and it should work
hope you got that
anyway shot blast is the best but costs about £50 if you dont like that then its the old wire weels. they do a wire weel that gose in a angle grinder

my chassis is in a smiilar state. i'm just going to leave it until i come to paint it. I'll use the wire cup angle grinder
'tool' on it along with some small wire brushes for the welds, then paint it with red lead. hopefully this weekend i'll get the
front suspension geopmetry on, so will after that be able to paint the front section (i'll just grind off the painbt when i need to re-weld a
bit)

whacking the rust
Just a quick tip, if you want your chassis and anything else shining, buy a cheap sand blasting gun from halfords and a couple of bags of silica sand
plug into your compressor and pull the trigger
Dont forget the old welding gauntlets and a full face guard (old welding helmet and suitable hat recommended). If you dont have a compressor get one
for xmas (worth a plug to the wife guys), you will wonder what u did before you had one. A bit like WD40! Almost forgot, build a cheapskate blasting
cabinet for the small stuff, and dont let rip next to your friends, cars, boats, or children the grit goes for miles and is a bit of a hazard but
ooooohhh the finish you get prior to painting

Thought I'd mention this just in case... silica sand is extreemly hazardous to your health i.e lungs
So if you are gona spray it... then be warned, its the very fine particles that do the damage. Its much better to get hold of plastic beads if you
can...

Ah thats why all the wise people who carry out mundane hobbies like ours should have a good quality respirator or air fed mask high up on the
"must have" thinghy's list. Pity I learned too late, poly dust ,poxy dust acetone etc etc etc methinks they are taking their toll
now, I couldnt run to catch a bus anymore Then again maybe I'm just a SLOB
