Hi all,
Got some ERW tube to weld together, and its coated in some anti rust stuff - how clean does it need to be to weld, and how is best to clean it?? Also,
same questions but for painting...
Thanks

The answer as always.....
Grinder with wire brush.
Rust / coating / paint gone in 60 nanoseconds.

and if thats too noisy then file / wire brush / emery (sp?) paper combinations till the steel goes bright.

If the anti rust stuff is a type of grease then wipe this off first with a paraffin or panel wipe soaked rag,
then a flap disc on the weld area only.
You will have to degrease prior to painting so you might as well do this sooner than later.
At least you will then be working with clean material.
