Thanks for that! lots of information on using the st170 ecu.
I wanted to use the original ecu as I intend to run the engine as ford intended and won't be going for power upgrades as the car should be more
than quick enough for me plus I have the focus loom so don't see the point of spending money on a aftermarket loom and ecu.
I had to travel 150 miles to get it, not from round here.
What's needed to turbo the st170 engine then? Think it would be a bit too lively in a rocket maybe.
You use the st170 bottem end to give you stronger pistons and rods. The black top, top end to get rid of the vvt and a thicker head gasket to get the
compression down. This is regarded as a reliable 350bhp capable lump.
Mine above is running on Oem Focus Rs Ecu. 215 in standard tune. 250 ish with a remap, 300 with parts and more boost.
The suspension is fairly corroded, rust underneath the car and the sump needs changing as it's very bad.
It needed steering rack for Mot and has done a shade over 100k.
I shall be removing engine and box at weekend. Then the wiring loom.
Bit of an update.
been busy with work before Christmas so haven't finished stripping my st170 yet, then my kit wasn't ready until 2 weeks before Xmas.
so Its been in the shed for nearly a month.
I have got the chassis cleaned and removed most of the small weld spatter.
I have sprayed it with 2k etch primer and today 2 coats of 2k primer.
I am not new to spraying but spraying a rocket chassis is a real test, I've got 2 small runs in the primer that will flat out but the top coat
needs to go on perfect.
before the top coat goes on I am going to make a support for each end to allow me to tilt the chassis on its side.
