Disaster - Help Required!

AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!! The welder has died!!!!!
We are in the final throws of getting ready for SVA next week and have a couple of minor (but necessary) welding jobs to do and the welder has died. Is there anyone around Bedford that would lend me their MIG for about a week?

It's a big ask I know, but when needs must and all that...

Obviously we can use our own consumables and would be happy to collect & return. I'd ideally like to pick up today if at all possible.

Cheers
Chaps

It swiches on. The gas valve opens when you press the trigger and you get a click but no wire feed and no motor etc. Had it all apart and there is no obvious cause like broken wire etc.

We are pretty much at panic stations in terms of getting ready so don't want to waste time unnecessarily. I could go and hire one but haemoraging cash at the moment so not keen.

I had the same thing and it turned out that there was a seperate fuse for the wire feed that had burnt out.

hmm had a the same thing in the past, I couldn't find the relays for the motor control either. What make and model is it? perhaps someone could pull up a wiring diagram for it or you could take it to a electrician and get them to look at it. I sure they'd find the fault in not time and cost very little. Have you had a meter over the motor terminals?

if nobody comes to you aid, I have a MIG, your welcome to borrow.

BUT I will need to double check it, cos it's been playing up lately (i planned to check it on friday as I need to do some welding but my mask has decided to die)

we may be able to mutually help each other. Subject to a working machine

If no one else comes to you aid let me know

Many thanks

There's a little circuit board at the back of the wire feed speed knob that goes wrong and causes the same symptoms, I had it on a SIP and a friend's Clarke went the same way.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I'm in Bedford and have one you can borrow if you can't sort one. It's on loan to someone else but will be back this weekend.

When mine died years ago I flipped the circuit board over and found a couple of burnt tracks, just bridged with a bit of wire and back to working.

Thank you

Thank you guys for your suggestions and offers of help.

The problem has now been solved and the welding done.

Little brother decided that he wanted a new more powerful welder anyway so he took this as the ideal excuse to go and buy one.

Me on the other hand, I'm going to follow your suggestions and see if I can fix it, then I'll have one of my own lol.

Once again thanks. It's reasuring to think that you were willing to help
