Started the Terrapin
At Last..
After finishing the Viento 1 ½ years ago I have finally started building the Terrapin.
Placed an order for all the steel for the Chassis , bought some flat sheets of wood and started to draw out bulkhead section of the chassis, in order
to make a welding jig.
Plan is to build a classic Mini engined Terrapin for sprints and hill Climb events. – no chance or winning but just to compete against my own
times.
Paul
Hopefully it will look something like this….

Hi Paul,
THAT'S GREAT NEWS!!!
and I would hate to unfairly influence your decision, but even Allan (RIP) himself reckoned it would of been better suited to a Bike Engine...
Not thought about it? - he did do full plans to change the rear chassis to be BEC
ATB, please keep a photo diary - it's a very interesting project.

No dont fancy a bike engine. My first car was a min and I am looking forword to working on a mini engine again. Full rebuild and then make my own
manifold for bike carbs or even throttle bodies.
Also if I fitted a bike engine then I would have to make it a good one to compete with other cars. As it is I stand no chance with the mini engine so
I am only up against my self time wise.

Hi Paul,
Great project - I keep putting my Terrapin build on hold.
I'm going to use the Terrapin suspension layout on my Mid-engined spaceframe Mini (but it will have a bike engine).
I ran a modified FF1600 with a Mini Engine in the back for a couple of seasons - great fun but as you say not very competitive.
You can always fit an 8 port or a twin-cam head to your A-series if you find you need more go.
Those BMW bike head conversions look fun

surely with a 998cc, 1098cc or even a 1275cc A series engine you will be competing against becs lol.
Mind you less of a temptation to "keep up with the lads" and the cost involved will be way less!
Good job!

Hope to keep the total cost of the build to £500 + the cost of wheels.
Already got all the steel and hopfully an engine for under £100

You'll only need half a set of bike carbs though
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
