Oil filter blow pinto

I have just rebuilt my Pinto and have covered about 80 miles. All going well.

I have come to start the engine this afternoon and the seal on the oil filter blew out of the groove in the filter and dumped 3 pints of oil on the floor.

What would cause this?

I fitted a new high pressure pump when rebuilding the engine and it runs at approx 80psi when running and drops to about 50psi at tickover when hot

Silly question but was the filter screwed on tight enough? I would have thought that not compressing the seal enough would allow the high oil pressure to blow it out.

Ive seen this happen on Fuel Filters on a 1MVA Perkins Generator. The fuel literally sprays the whole room and was down to a faulty batch of filters.

Replace it and dismiss. If it happens again, youll know that you need to look further.
