Speak to your local Steel Stockholders as they will have all the relevant specs , and should be able to advise you on the right stuff to use.

These places are known "hobby friendly"
http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/metal-suppliers.htm

or http://www.parkersteel.co.uk

But if you're buying full 6m lengths then most stockholders should be ok.

i paid £7.40 for 19x19x1.6 & £9.60 for 25x25x1.6 inclusive of vat for 6.1mtr lengths plus £15 delivery ,
if that gives you an idea of costs, i basically bought approx 46mtrs for £ 115 delivered.

sorry, i should have put that info in my first post,
the steel was 16 gauge ERW , really nice stuff, sorry i,m not at where my build folder receipts are & can,t remember the company name ( can get it later if needed) but they are based in the north east tho they are just a steel stockBROKER, the steel came from a company in Bradford.
its as near to the size spec that is required in the Haynes Roadster book as i could get, its now almost a finished chassis now, on wheels next week.

cheers

1.5mm or 1.5mm (16swg in old money) ERW mild steel.

On parkers this would be the one
linky

If the links don't work this is the navigation

In cov you've got Mattersons and Steel Supermarket.

If you phone both up and say you want 1" ERW box 16 gauge they'll then quote you a price. If they ask what sort just say "no idea mate, i'm making a space framed chassis for a car" and they'll quote something back at you. Its what I did.

Metal Supermarket came out cheaper cause I was buying a number of complete lengths and they even threw in delivery. I you start buying one or two bits, especially half lengths things start to get expensive.

Look in the yellow pages / yell.co.uk and get ringing.

Whilst you're doing it, see if you can get a price for a length of round CDS tube.

reading the msa web page it needs to be,

27. Minimum tube specifications are:
• Minimum Material: Cold Drawn Seamless Carbon
Steel
• Minimum Yield Strength: 350 N/mm2
• Minimum Dimensions (Ø mm): 45x2.5 or 50x2.0;

ISG steel are much cheaper than parkers, parkers have a really big delivery charge.

Not sure if they will go that far north.
