Being undecided

If I was to start making the book chassis with no real idea what engine I'm going to put in there, is it going to be a major problem adjusting to fit or should I just leave a few bits out until I do have an engine?

This is more an excercise in spreading the cost and not having a scrap car sat on the drive for years

It'll depend more on your gearbox at the early stages...

I agree ...

... Made the book chassis and now having to cut it about to get the gearbox to fit.

Get all the drivetrain sorted before building the chassis above the base rails.

So just get the outside frame done and leave parts like the transmission tunnel and where the engine mounts will go, sounds good to me

You can still do 90% of the chassis before you get an engine/box.

I can think of 14 chassis rails that *might* be affected.

Make sure you track down the Cymtriks chassis mods whilst you're there.

HTH,
James

You will need to decide if you are going to be using a 6 or 4 pot as that would alter the whole front half of the chassis.

Just build it! If you spend any more time trying to see into the future, youll never get anything done!

Keep it simple for the first build.

cymtriks is/was a member of this site that did some quite extensive computer modelling of the original locost chassis.

http://locost7.info/mirror/chassis.php
has some useful information.
I think cymtriks mods are in http://locost7.info/files/chassis/kitcaranalysis_V2.doc

The http://locost7.info/mirror/aussiemods.php section is also a mine of useful information (they needed to make similar mods to get the car through the engineer's report they require out there.

Lol got to get the garage cleared first, then get a welder and some metal to practice on.
Swmbo said if I can clear the garage it's fine, but I don't think she believes I'll do it. Also money's restricting me buying things like a welder and decent tools

I'll get it done one day though, starting's the difficult thing right now and £500 plus for an engine and seats is a lot of money right now
