Why are Tubes X1 & X2 round?
I've just realised that when I get to fitting the back panel not only is the upper edge dresses over the top tubular hoop but each end also
meets a tube (X1 & X2) so presumably I will have the same problem there.
How difficult is this to achieve and would I be better to use 3/4" square tube for X1 & X2 so I could just bend the panel over these and
rivet it on?
What's everyone else done?

You need the round tube as the rear panel actually forms a compound curve ( i.e sort of conical in the extreme form) shape. A square tube would give
you a hard corner edge whereas a round tube will allow you to dress the panel much easier and more pleasing to the eye.
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

Hi
It is my opinion that X1, X2 and for that matter, X3 and X4, can all be fabricated out of square section. There are no compound curves to take into
consideration at these points and as long as they are aligned accurately with their mating members there should be no disadvantages. In my opinion it
is easier to manufacture these components out of 19mm square section and this is what I have done, (although I am quite prepared to be convinced
otherwise should my logic be flawed).
