Most reliable way to 250bhp?
OK money aside, I was wondering what the most reliable way of achieving 250bhp (or thereabouts) would be without compromising handling through
excess weight in a Seven type car? Bit of an open-ended question I know! NA or forecd induction, it doesn't matter - just must be fairly low
weight and not require rebuild every (x) miles.
Cheers,
Tim

Depends on budget i suppose.
Zetec Turbo wouldnt be too difficult, and relatively cheap. Go much more though, and youll need to consider new rods and pistons etc i would
imagine.
Failing that, the renault turbo engine is good for 230 as standard. Im hoping for mine to see 250, but thats with increased boost and a supercharger
rather than a turbo. The nitrous should add an additional 50 - 75hp.
Kindest Regards,
Richard.

Duratec V6 on TBs should give you 250bhp with buckets of torque (that's what I'm aiming for anyway). One of the lightest V6s around too.

Yep, I had ~370bhp out of one (still in the car it came in ) on a standard bottom end, std compression etc - it had a lot of other bolt on bits
though

When I think light power and unlimited money the Holeshot racing V8 is impressive.
Two Busa lumps strapped to each other then bored out to 2.8.
Revs upto 10K and produces 400hp NA. 700Hp forces induction!
Cost about £8K though!!!
Dear father chrstmas
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

Haha yeah. Funnily enough I was looking at the Hartley H1V8 this afternoon. 400-700bhp in a Seven might be overcooking things a little methinks - not
to mention the money.
Myself, I'd been thinking Zetec turbo, but a Duratec V6 looks like it would fit the bill. Do you know how many more kg than the 4-cylinder
Duratec?
S2000 unit would be up there, but it would be for a Striker and think it may be a little tall?
Cheers for all the replies so far,
Tim

what about a mazda RX7 twin turbo 3rd generation they come with 252hp standerd, and later models came with 276hp standerd, not bad for a 1300cc engine!

From what I can gather the V6 is about 15kg heavier than the 4cyl Duratec.
The S2000 engine is an absolute belter, but it is pretty heavy (by modern 4 cyl standards).
Or you could go left-field and fit a Rotary! The 231ps RX8 engine is a peach and weighs a little over the 80kg mark. Mates to a sweet 6-speed box
too!

Great minds and all that!
its mad how much power they get out of those engines as standerd, a standerd power tune came with 189hp(the bottom of the range), my puma is a 1.7 and
developed with the help of yamaha only has 120hp

How often do you need to rebuild them to keep them running 'reliably'?
IIRC the Radical SR8 bike engine based V8's has a 30-50hour rebuild schedule at £3k a pop

I second that, it's what's getting dropped in my seven.
Bought a 1997 328i, and so far, i have the engine and box, and have earned £400ish
So that's 230bhp, and paid £400 for doing it!!!

3S-GTE will shove out 250hp all day long with it's eyes shut waiting for you to be more adventurous. In fact it'll happily go up to 300 on
stock parts, I drove mine round in this form for 3 years with no problems until I shattered a clutch launching the 1.5 ton 4wd on an 80K mile old
clutch.
Problem is finding a box that'll mate with it for normal 7-type/RWD use?
This has been my plan for the last 12 months until someone waved the idea of a BEC in front of me and threw a spanner in the works.

F20C (S2000 engine) is an epic engine.
Yes, it is a bit heavy, but that's because it has been built to take serious abuse.
250bhp standard (for the JDM version that I have) and the standard forged internals can take 500bhp on boost.
