Steering Rack Mounts

I had my IVA last Friday, and failed on steering rack mounts required bracing.

Just wondered if anyone had pictures of theirs that have gone through IVA.

Thanks.

What mounts are you using and where exactly do they want it bracing?

Do they have a diagonal like mine? Wondering if that is what he meant

Also the back of the mounting plate is bent back down to attach to the chassis so the bracket itself is an L shape.

You got any pictures of the offending area? Could help us find a solution.

Cheers

Rich

P.S Went through sva not iva if that makes any difference.

I saw the Haynes Roadster has a diagonal too.

He wants a nut under the bracket so the bolt can not pull through as it is currently on a threaded hole with lock washers.

I believe he wants the brace to stop the mounts twisting back if under strain.

A previous owner cut the diagonal brace out of my rack brackets presumably to save weight, but an eagle eyed scrutineer pointed out the flex he could see when moving the steering wheel when stationary. I'm about to weld a diagonal brace back in again! Note that my original brace only braced the nearside bracket, presumably that was enough.

You definitely want longer bolts with a nyloc on it, those brackets are all that locates the rack laterally - you really don't want a bracket breaking loose at speed

Shaun.

Hi

Yes we looked at it yesterday and started remaking the brackets, with nuts and bolts holding the rack to it.

I looked at the diagonal brace design and can see it will hold the rack mount from sideways movement when steering.

We are going to fit that onto mine when the other brackets are done. I assume this is what they want.

The brackets are 6mm thick so are realy solid.
