Pre built chassis
1. Is it worth buying a chassis if I cannot/ don't want to build one?
2. Does anyone know of a cheap but reasonable one to buy!?

For ya grand you get chassis,wishbones,bushes,6 piece fibreglass set and some front hubs and rack on exchange.
They did do an escort book version starter package for £750 which included fibreglass, but you would have to call and check on that one.

Sorry MK do not do their Indy kit for about a grand, their prices are plus VAT
plus VAT, plus VAT, plus VAT, plus VAT
I happen to know that their engineering and car designs are excellent, but their marketing is cr*p. What is the point in quoting prices plus VAT??????
How many of their customers are VAT registered I wonder? 1%? Less? Why tell people that the price is £995 when it's actually £1,1691.25? What's the
point?????????

The point is that they are an engineering business (MK Mechanical Engineering)and as a reult of their turnover ARE VAT registered. By the way the
other point is the decimal one. The kit doesn't cost £11691.25 you're about £10000 out!

who very nicely told me they dont usually sell steel as there just an engineering firm not a supplier and would be 2 dear
but gave me a name and rough address of a guy who builds kit cars not that far from me as "he could give ya some pointers"

Every firm that turns over more than £100,00 a year (or thereabouts, it's a while since I last looked) has to be VAT registered and therefore has to
charge VAT on all their sales. The fact that MK are an engineering company is not relevant to that. Tesco are vat registered and charge vat on their
sales, but the prices they quote are VAT inclusive. Westfiled are also VAT registered and the prices they quote are also VAT inclusive. Lolocost are
VAT registered and quote VAT inclusive prices.
Whether or not a firm includes VAT in their prices is a marketing decision. It usually depends on whether the majority of their customers are VAT
registered .
In the case of firms who supply kit car products the majority of their customers are not VAT registered. Therefore firms supplying kit car components
to members of the public should quote VAT inclusive prices when advertising. If there is some big problem with that then they should quote both
prices.
I have no argument with MK's designs or products, they are excellent and I already know that they are great people to deal with.

Just what exactly is the problem? Prices quoted are + VAT. So add 17.5 percent to the price. Basic maths is a subject we all learnt at school, when we
go to spain on holiday we don't complain that the prices are only in euros and not sterling as well, we convert it. Grow up and get a life, get in
the garage and get building instead of sitting there complaining about things that mean nothing! (no offence like)

It's obvious that you don't like me complaining about MK. However, your defence is a little bit too fierce. My maths is fine, my life is fine, I'm
fully grown and I spend plenty of time in my garage building stuff.
I'm not complaining about MK, I simply want to know what the point of quoting prices plus VAT. Did you hear that, what is the point???

I'll answer that
"whats the point" well a website isn't only going to be looked at by us here in blighty, overseas customers don't pay VAT, if MK quoted prices
inc. VAT I'm sure overseas customers would be put off.
If you leave prices without its easy enough for anyone to add whatever taxes apply in their given country
Smartarse eh ?

Actually I was referring to the adverts in the Kit Car magazine. However, customers in the UK have to pay the VAT, and everybody in the EU also has to
pay the VAT, and at the UK rate. Doesn't leave many, does it?
The real reason for not quoting VAT is to make the prices seem lower.

Look generally at the car parts trade.......
find someone that DOESNT price ex vat. Halfords excepted.

Another example - europa spares prices, along with vehicle wiring products - are all plus vat prices - and the trade doesnt build kit cars

Well, if i were selling a product, i would like my customers to know how much I was charging them for it. The fact I had to put another 175 quid on it
and give it to gordon brown wouldnt be my problem, so why should I make my product look more expensive?
I suspect that most kit providers (robin hood also) quote plus vat. So, if martin did vat inclusive prices at the bargain end of the market, it would
look crap in comparison to RH's 17.5% cheaper kits.
market forces i think its called.....

Dear Mr Interestedparty
You probably know that I am a good friend of Mr Martin Keenan. That does'nt mean that I fight his battles for him or stick up for him all the time.
We often disagree and have our differing viewpoints. He can fight his own battles believe you me. Frankly I could'nt give a rat's ass weather his or
other's prices are inclusive of VAT or not. If they are'nt then I add 17.5 percent on. I just don't see what your problem is. Take this fight to
the government or the customs and excise and watch out, that vein on the side of your head looks like it's about to blow! Get yourself to Donnington
at the weekend and learn the art of chillin' with me some of the other list boys. Life's too short to get hung up on trivia like VAT.
