FU and V6
I seem to recall that this has been discussed before but I can't find it, so I throw it to the braying hoards:
I have just dropped the old V6 (2.8 cologne) into my chassis for the first time and lo and behold the radiator hose outlet from the thermostat could
not be more perfectly aligned with the B****** FU tube (as if it wasn't enough trouble anyway).
This is not convenient!!
I can see two options:
1) move engine forward which I don't want to do as I wanted to get the weight back and it also gets a bit cramped at the front with such a wide
engine. Also it would mean messing about with the gear linkage.
2) Move the engine back which I don't want to do as this would entail widening the tunnel and creating even narrower foot wells.
What have you all done?
I eagerly await your response 'cos it has rather spoilt my excitement.
Cheers
Phil

my car is fairly wide in the bonnet, and I had no problem with the F tubes. However I did have a problem getting the hose out past the two V belts
(alternator and power steering).
So, I made up my own stat housing. Used a piece of 2.5mm plate and used a gasket as a template, then welded a length of tube on to it.
The plate bolts on to the original stat mounts and the pipe goes to the rad hose.
As the stat body goes into the block, it mounts pretty flat into the block, allowing the flat plate with the pipe on it to fit in the original stat
housing position.
Pic doesnt show a lot, but at least gives you an idea of the approach.

Ah Ha! option 3):
Remake stat cover - Hadn't thought of that one.
Steve you are a genius (of sorts) must rush to workshop to have a look ( or better still find V6 Manual).

Option 3b - have a look around the breakers for a thermostat housing with the hose pointing in the right direction - IIRC thrmostats are a standard
size

Stats may be the same size - but what about the stud holes?
Might be worth a thought though.

Panic over.
Didn't have the engine fully in position last night as I still hadn't bolted up the bell housing but it must have been more skew than I
thought 'cos now it is lined up properly the outlet is directly behind the FU tube but there is enough space for the hose - Phew.
Unfortunately though, my cunningly designed engine mounts did not take into account the position of the Starter motor - doh!! At least that is an easy
re-design job.
You can measure stuff as much as you like but there really is no substitute for fitting it together to really see how much you have cocked up! (Unless
you are CAD literate I guess).

We have done a fair bit of CAD but I'm not going to weld up the transmission tunnel without trying the engine and gearbox in there first. Can
just imagine a little hose or sensor or flange widget of some sort that didn't make it onto the CAD model buggering everything up.
