Discovery td5
Well I must be mad but my heart says yes so advice please.
TD5 Disco2 03 plate with 150K on the engine. Should i get my head checked before I go and look??
I've viewed a fair few now all with junk chassis or leaking sunroofs BUT this might just be the one for me.
All air springs and ace pipes at rear have been replaced less than a year ago. New clutch 2 years past, new battery and new discs and pads all round.
I'll give the chassis a good checking over obviously but the photos look favourable compared to many I have seen.
Only thing is the 150K miles on the engine. Should I be worried?? what are they good for mileage wise.

Good for a great deal more than 150,000 - does it have FSH ?
It sounds as though you know what you're looking at.

Check for oil contamination in the engine wiring loom/oil getting into the loom and wiring. It is the source of alot of running problems with them.
Should of been taken care of given the age.

I really like them and if looked after they can be fine.
Sounds like you do realise it's a Land Rover so I will need a little more love than a Jap equivalent?
I think they're worth it.

the other way of looking at it what would a rebuilt engine cost to do yourself or one of from a re conditioners scrap yard.
I would go for it, if it been maintained and driven well 150k is not mega miles.
My question would be why is seller - 'Selling'

The other advantage is you can get almost dealer level diagnostic software.

I seem to remember when looking for mine I was warned about fuel in the oil and bad starting usually linked to a cracked head. I think the fuel flows
through the head and they crack and fill the sump with fuel. I did have a starting problem with mine but it was just injector seals.
One thing I have found is the parts are cheap and easy to source.

Fuel in the oil is a common problem, the fuel rail is cast into the head, clever really so have a good look for high oil level, if it goes it will
fill the sump quickly and does not usually harm anything if caught soon enough.

Well I went to see it yesterday and its been well looked after right enough. Had a new clutch due to not having a pedal? long story short was it had a
clutch, release bearing, slave cyl and 2 master cyls. Al because the 1st diagnosis of a master cyl did not solve the problem. It was dismissed as
being the problem ,and everything else was done inc a DMF but it still id not solve it. Yip you've guessed it the new master cyl was fubared.
SO it was very difficult to pick out any faults at all ( well nothing heavy duty it is 13 years old after all ).
Bit of haggling and beat them down £500 and did a deal.
Just hope its the right decision LOL. Can't wait to get it picked up and home. Let the fettling begin.
So ( all things being equal, in casting an eye on any car by guys like us )for you landy experts whats it worth.
Hoping I've bagged a bargain LOL
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.
