Locost or Haynes Roadster

Hi Guys,
Just bought myself a 'Locost' so I could mess about with it and do some hill climbing. From what I've read and I may be wrong Locosts have live rear axle and Haynes Roadsters have independent suspension, IRS chassis and later ones use MX5 donor parts. From reading this guys build dairy he mentions IRS chassis and i know used modified MX5 wishbones and uprights. Are there any clear and easy ways of clarifying what car i have. I understand that all Locosts are unique. Thanks

Get out the measuring tape, Haynes is overall wider and taller than a chapman locost.

Mine has a chapman sized frame with shortened Sierra IRS and wide front bones, locost unless you are racing means low cost = buy a donor and use all you can!

Chassis is 42" wide so i believe that makes it a locost, is that correct ?

42" cockpit width = chapmans chassis, both are locost.
This link should help

McSorely plans

If you fit, the smaller the better IMHO, as you keep the weight nearer the centre and have less frontal area so potentially faster and lighter as well.

Maybe not as practical.

Luego made there first Irs (velocity) the same width as a live axle "book" car. Bonnet reminds me of an Aires and again they are "book sized"
