starting lower rails
Just started saturday at cutting and laying out the lower rails.
At this stage of the build what errors are there in the book that have already been
spotted and corrected?

This has definitely come up before so your best bet is to search previous posts. You may also like to visit
Jim McSorley's site, which has accurate plans.

Yikes... this isn't the time to be asking! What if no one answers for a week, are you going to just wait until the answer pops up? All the
research should be done *before* lifting the saw or torch.

Best advice I can give is very check you have enough room for your choice engine and gearbox -- particularly if you are using a type 9.

My method was to use the metric dimensions and to cut as I built. To be honest I don't recall any major errors during this phase of the build,
if there are any my measure before cutting approach overcame them.
Do a bit of research on the construction of the forward bulkhead, (LA, LB, LC and LD) and also on the positioning of the aptly named FU 1 and 2
uprights. A search on here for upper wishbones or FU 1 and 2 positioning will fill you in.
Use the book as a guide rather than absolute 'gospel' and you won't go far wrong.
It's also worthwhile downloading a set of Jim Mcsorley's drawings, they are very detailed and the format lends itself well to the
construction phase.

Agreed- get the McSorley plans. And I recommend keeping it all metric too.
The main rails of the chassis are ok I believe- it's the later ones that have problems. Caused, so I've read, when Haynes converted
Chairman Ron's metric into Imperial.
Whatever you do, don't put FU1/2 into place until you have done your bracket jig. AFAIR they sit inline with rail 'E' and 16mm
inboard from the top rail- but this may vary depending on your brackets.
Leaning the LA/B/C/D piece back an extra inch will help with bracket placement too- and it may mean you won't need gusseting on the brackets.
