What Chassis (McSorley +4 or book) for Plymouth Belvedere engine?

Am new here. I have Ron Champion's Book, and the wealth of information from this site (as well as Cymtrik's and McSorley's among others).

I have a running condition Plymouth Belvedere II at a neigbor's house (haven't checked if it's V6 or V8) it looks like it's a 1965 model. He said if I haul it away, I can have it.

Originally, I was planning to find either an Escort as the book says (hard to find here in Manila, Philippines) or maybe use a RWD Mitsubishi Lancer or Toyota Sprinter from the 70s.

The donor car alone would cost me about $500 (not CHEAP in a 3rd World Country), so the Plymouth Belvedere looks enticing (but I may have to look at overhauling costs, so that might be a factor).

An engine like that -- would that necessitate the McSorley +4, or would the book chassis be adequate?

Thanks.

Unless you know all about that engine, and have researched spare parts, I'd advice getting the car, selling it, and using the money to get a more "mainstream" doner. Don't make the project hard on you from the start by choosing components that will be very hard to replace.

Since I posted that question many hours ago, I have been surfing the 'net researching... and that advice is very helpful.

In the end, where I'm from, Escorts are hard to come by (did a search on "escort" in the local internet-based Buy&Sell and came up with more 5'7" females and 5'11" "discrete" males -- heheh). So, I think my options are to get a Toyota engine (lots of toyotas running around here), specifically a 4AGxx engine.

Since Ron's book is about Escorts, I have searched the internet for Locosts on 4AGxx engines, and have come up with a few. In case I missed any, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Most us haven't a clue what a Plymouth Belvedere is but I would guess its the Chrysler Valiant by another name -- From reading of Chrysklers UKs atempts to Chrysler Valiant V8 in the Sunbeam Tiger in place of the Ford 260 and 289 units I know was bigger and heavier than the Ford or small block Chevy and about twice the weight of the Rover-Buick V8 --- just too big and too heavy. Do you have the old rwd Nissan/Datsun 160B or 180B in your area ?

I agree with kb58, it's maybe possible to sell it a good price. Rescued attachment Plymouth Belvedere 1967.jpg

Thanks for all the replies... yes, upon looking at it, parts for the Belvedere would prove more costly in the long run anyway, so getting it for free is likely a false economy.

BTW, from the looks of what Aloupol posted, it's the 1967 model, albeit what's on my neighbor's house is the 4-door one.

I'll look into the nissan engine britishtrident suggested, though 4-AGEs seem to be numerous around these here parts.

Now I have to search for Locost sites which have 4-AGE installations...

Thanks for the replies again, guys!

Isn't it a free resource? Could you shine it up and sell it? Even making just a bit on it would help funding for your "real" project car.

Hello Alfa,
I suggest that you look at the Australian locost forums, since they are in your part of the planet, and they seem to use maily Japanese parts for their projects.
Can you export the Plymouth? I bet you could get good money for it in Australia. maybe you could do a swap for modern Japanese parts with some one in OZ.
Cheers
KT
