Formula SAE racecar

Hello everybody. Nube here. I am a college student is the US and am finding this site very useful for a projec ti am working on. Our college group is designing and building a racecar that is going to be judged on a whole bunch of different aspects. I am and engineer student and have found the forums a wealth of information. If anybody has any suggestions on where we should start on building our racecar just go ahead and throw them out. We have decided on a double wishbone suspension and now we need to draw a frame. what is the easiest way to start? As per rules we have to use an engine no more than 600cc. We are are using a motorcycle engine most likely from a suzuki gsxr-600. Any help is great and thanks a lot.

I was invited to assist with the Deakin University entry a couple of years ago and really enjoyed the design process.
I would recommend you also have a look at the FSAE.com Forum.

Cheers, Rorty.

I might recommend starting at the suspension, or perhaps the contact patch if you have some tire data (Hoosier has a little bit on its website). Make your basic assumptions that you'll be working toward (weight, CG, cornering loads, etc) and design the geometry. Since the chassis is basically a "giant bracket to hold everything together," you'll then have your point load inputs to work from, along with engine and driver dimensions. You have a huge task in front of you, and a lot of fun. Cheers!

We have actually started to work on that. what we have in mind is to make our suspension from parts off of arctic cat snowmobiles. an individual says that having a remote resevoir will be very benificial for the suspension. arctic cat uses a double wishbone so modifying will not be very difficult. On the Radical sr4 it says that they went for a different type of suspension because of weight issues. is this relevant or should remote resevoir work? Thanks for the help already. many ideas have already been going through my head
