MX5 engine fitting using the OEM mounts
I'd like to fit my MX5 engine using the standard engine mounts, they seem quite sturdy and they are very 'locost' IE free with the
donor. Reading one guide related to the MX5 suggest that these engine mounts are operating in shear (if that's the correct way to describe
them), and it would be better to replace them with more 'typical' mounts such as Landrover ones. But surely they were working the same in
the original car so it can't be a bad design?
Is there actually any issue with using the standard mounts? Has anyone actually used them and had any issues?

I use them on my sandrail engine swap - that gets a lot more abuse than a road car is likely to see (they are mounted properly just an odd camera
angle!), 2k later no issues.

Locost tip for firming up the standard engine mounts - fill the cavities in the rubber with silicon sealant, leave to set for 24hrs - job's a
good 'un!

I also used the original Mazda engine mounts for my MX-5 engine installation.
They work fine - if Mazda engineered them they will work perfectly for our cars.
Just make sure that you mount them at the same angle that Mazda used.

Thank you all, looks like I'm ok sticking with my original plan. When I see one article saying they're bad, and then half a dozen (and the
original car manufacturer!) saying they're ok, it's a pretty easy decision.
JAG, thanks for the pointer about keeping them the same angle, I am planning to mount them to the engine and build up the frame to meet them.
