Try this for starters...

SVACheck

As the Westfield is a clone of the Locost then it may be useful...

No problems at all, passed first time, took just over 2 hours. It's a piece of cake, been to my own and one other and it's easy! Read about it on my website.

I'm pleased to hear people reporting they got through no problem, but what result did you get?
i.e. did you manage to keep the registration of the donor vehicle? or an age related vrm based on the age of the donor? or a Q plate?
My concern is if they regard my vehicle as new will I need a catalytic converter?

weather you need a cat or not depends on the age of the engine, and you may have to prove the age if it is a zetec etc

you never, ever, ever get to keep the vin or number plate of the donor. a new vin and plate are issued.

If the engine had a cat on the car, its a fair rule you will need one on the car. (unless it was pre 1992 whatever when they were fitted as niceties.)

If you build a locost from substantially one donor, using engine, gearbox, steering and axles (like the rear) then you will get an age related plat i.e, if the donor is 1987, so will your reg no be.

Sometimes iys possible to bulls%$t your way into convincing the vro its from one car, but thats a risk.

I'm pretty sure it is actually '96. From 92-96 the maximum CO was reduced from 4.5 to 3.5, but that is still acheivable with webers on a zetec. After 96 (don't know the exact date) you've got to have a catalyst and that means you have got to have fuel injection

Sorry gusto but you're wrong. We have a guy in the yorks group who did just that, can't remember how exactly but he SVA'd it and kept the donor reg. Although I don't see why you would want/need to keep it unless it was a personal reg. Mines age related BTW.

Thanks everyone for putting my mind at rest. I'm hoping to build a Locost to race (I currently race a Mighty Mini) but also want to make it road legal. I'm considering getting a mk2 Escort to use as a donor and was hoping to be able to have an age related vrm. Also I didn't want to have to fit a cat on a race car.
