position of engine and gearbox

hi all

this has possilbe been asked a million times before but!!!

just got the engine and gearbox in place to sort the mounts where should the engine be, i have the box as far back as it can go about an inch of clearance from the chasis but how do you center it.

i have got the center of the crank pulley and the gearbox output shaft lined up with my center line for welding the chasis and have a spirit level so the engine is level, is this correct

i am fitting a 1600 crossflow and a four speed box (got told it was a five speed but i think they were counting reverse as one of the five)

sorry maybe to ask the same questions

Ive set mine but I dont know if its correct until ive finished but be careful of the steering link to the oil pump, my engine is obout 15mm to to the left of the car, also the gearbox looked low to me if I did it to the book so I lifted it about 30mm above the book setting, good luck
