Just starting....!!
Im looking at starting my locost chassis. Im wanting to use the Nissan Silvia turbo motor I have sat in my garage. Question time, I've got the
McSorely plans, from a sourcing bodywork point of view, which chassis should I use?? Rear axle? live or IRS? Im looking to using the car for sprints /
hillclimbs, but it might end up on the road yet....

For smooth roads, the rear axle type doesn't matter too much. Bumpy, real world roads are a different story and IRS makes a big difference. If
possible, get a ride in a live axle 7, then an IRS version.

The book chassis seems very narrow in the cockpit. Is there any problem in adding 4" in the square rear section (tubes B1 and B2 i think??) and
leaving the rest of the chassis has book? I realise that the appearence might be a bit more "tapered" but I can live with that!!

Yes, because it'll change the relative positions of FU1/2 and the LA/LB front assembly and those are the rails that your wishbones mount to.
Mess with them at your peril!

Instead, add 4" straight down the middle as per the McSorley 7+4 (as I have done). The geometry of the front is left the same each side (things
like roll centre may change.. but nobody's suggested this is a problem) and you get the added bonus that a standard escort mk2 steering rack is
now almost exactly the right length for your front end to operate without bump steer. You will need track rod extenders but these are availabe.

Added bonus that rack fits...
...added disadvantage that you then need +4" bodywork to fit it!

So, the rack is perfect....
Sierra dif & drive shafts are perfect....
Just the bodywork then....

Surely then, the 442 McSorely chassis is perfect? A bit wider and longer but uses Standard nosecone.
Anyone built one yet??

I started my 442 last week. Sorry i can't help you too much just now as it's not finished yet
The points that clinched it for me were I wanted more room and height as I'm a fatlad and my lads 6'2" so there was a need for
lenght and width (I know others will disagree) but you'll work out youself the road you want to go down.
