Which chassis.....any ideas??

Hi people,

I'm new to this site and am very impressed with it.

I need a bit of help... I have decided to go for a kit car and decided on the lotus 7 copy. I've looked at kits (robin hood) but might just go for making a book chassis. I haven't the first idea about welding it myself, where should I go to get one??? OR should I buy a rolling chassis..

Decisions decisions...?????

Thanks,

Ratchet

I'm not building one ,but have bought some bits&pieces from them and based only on the service/welcome you receive when visiting, MK take some beating. Its a bonus then that the quality of their chassis, I believe, are second to none!

theres Martin Keenan, Stuart Taylor, Luego to name a few.

MK seem to get the most votes. Stuart Taylor dont seem to get many votes. Luego have had a bad past, so i hear, but i likes the service and i have gone with them, no worries yet so im chuffed. theres a thread earlier in the forum about this subject, its gone into it in length.

cheers

Welcome - this subject has been discussed many times b4 and we be again many times in the future as it's such a crutial question.

I decided to build my own chassis with absolutely no experience, and so far I'm beyond rolling chassis stage with engine in and loved every minute of it. There are loads of pros and cons for buy or build - check out the previous posts. Also get to as many shows and meet ups as you can and have a look/ride in as many as possible b4 deciding.

And buy the book first...

Good luck

I would say look at your time constraints and use that as a partial guide. Whatever you choose it's gonna take a long time, but building your own takes longer. For most people even standard chassis cars will take over 1000 hours to build- that's 3 hours *every* day for a year!
If you mess with the chassis design it'll take even longer!

Anyway, I'm sounding pressimistic again, must be coz I'm ill (aah poor didums) and instead of working on car last night spent it digging my girlfriends car out of the ditch she'd just spun it into!
Oh well, I wanted to spend time in the scrappy buying Fiesta parts to fix it with instead of the Locost!

Cheers,

James
