L - Section from GTS plans!
Hi,
I'm in the early stages of build and i'm at a real head scratching stage already! I'm building from the GTS chassis plans which have
a slightly different front bulkhead (L-section) arrangement which has an extra angle in the LA/LB tubes so that it meets the top piece at 90
degree's.
The problem I have is with the compound angle on the bottom of LA/LB I think. With everything in place the tube is twisted so that the side is not
parallel to the centre of the chassis. It is correct to the plans in all other ways. I'm not sure what to do now. Should I cut the tacks and
rotate the tube so that its all square? If i do this then some edges will sticking out beond the edges of the LD & LC tubes at the joins. Its
difficult to describe! Or is the problem that i cut the compound angle wrong? Once a tube has had a compound angle cut then the end is a strange shape
that won't but againts a 25mm square shape!
The other question I have is that i have built this with a 76mm offset, is this correct on GTS plans or is it like the book needing slightly more
angle to get the required caster?
I'm not clear on what wishbones should be used for these plans either, book bones or the items that GTS sell, anyone got any ideas?
Thanks for any help!!!

You are correct in thinking that the side of the LA / LB tubes should be parrallel to the chassis. To achieve this you will have to twist the tube so
as it is no longer square. This is normal on a book build and will be the same on a GTS.
Sorry can't help with the second question as I've never seen the GTS plans but I'm sure someone else will have the gen.
Mick
Edit to say that the other option is to leave LA ? LB as they are and pack out the wishbone brackets so as they are parrallel

Hi, I’ve built mine to Darren’s plans hoping that it would be a measure cut and weld job. Well it isn’t.
As you will see if you have "the book" dimensions are very similar.
The Panther is designed to use sierra running gear and uses different front wishbones than book.
The book bones will fit but with the same inherent problems with castor.
I’ve been pondering and reading for over a month and have decided to build a jig for the wishbone brackets as suggested on here .I’m aiming for 6 deg
castor so will be pulling the top bones back around 25mm.This will give problems with the top front bones missing or as good as La +Lb but ill work
that out.
One tip I can give is dont even try to make FU1+FU2 until you are ready to set the brackets.
There is a few pics of my chassis in this post .I’ve done the transmission tunnel
based on the book and will do the same for back end.
Darren has the drawings of the wishbones and provided me with them. If your planning on using a sierra donor.
If I was doing the chassis again I would drag the top of La-Lb back about 100mm not the 76mm.
I made a jig for the front La-Lb assembly as I found welding 2 compound mitres in mid air sodding difficult.

Thanks for the replies!
I just have to decide now if i should increase the offset to 100mm then i'll crack on with the second attempt, this bit has been holding me up
too much!
big_wasa do you think with the GTS bones it would be better with 100mm offset to get the 5.5degree's of caster?
Cheers.

I think the gts bones are designed for the chassis to give corect castor but require sierra running gear.
What running gear are you using ?
If cortina then treat it as a book build and read up on it. Ask me again when ive had a go at setting the brackets.

Darren made me a set of cortina wishbones for my car. But they are wider to match the sierra rear track...
He also does make 'book' wishbones that have been corrected for castor.
