Lightweight
Hi Guys, I am building a Robin Hood Lightweight. Anyone else out there building a similar model RH who want to share ideas?

be prepared to take a little flak around here! Robin Hoods for some reason attract it! You must have one of the first lightweight kits what is it
like? I am building a locost from the book, so far I have been less than impressed with the bits I got from Lolocost part of the Robin Hood empire! I
bought a set of bushes and bush tubes, the tubes have all needed setting on the lathe as they are too narrow in the bore to take the bushes and all
the widths are different but they were cheap!
I hope your kit is more accurate than my tubes or you are in for a lot of work to fit everything!

you get what you pay. hoods used to be cheap that why they needed a bit of extra time
however i trust with the price increase theres a quality increase. . . .
the kit is what is, where mk kits and others of the same type are easier to build and locost from scratch, hoods come in between and are at the right
price for there quality
any kit car will only ever be as good as the builder makes it
the lightweight looked good to me.

Yeah, you definately need an air riveter!
Yes, its a fair bit of work - but rewarding!

I think the lightweight should be an altogether different beastie to the old tubular RH's
I for one would be interested to know how it goes.
Any chance of posting some pics?

Is it an aluminium one, a mild steel one or a stainless one? The last time I looked, they suggested that all three would become available.

What's the weight of the 'lightweight' is there really a significant difference from the traditional sevens?

They did suggest a choice of materials, but it is only actually available in Ally.

I think they quote "just over 500kgs" with a Duratec engine installed and alluminium hub carriers, so with my zetec engine and sierra hubs
will be a bit heavier

My mate Simon is building one he is at a fairly advanced stage now. he is using a 2.0 ltr Zetec black top and MT75 box.as you say a air riviter is
essential. I nicked it to do the floor on my Indy last week,I am sure he would like to share notes with anyone else who is doing one.

The RobinHood owners club would be a good place to share information and they are a great bunch there but please stay here as well as people here have
a truly vast range of knowledge and experience.

I'm still Area secretary for RHOCAR in East Anglia even though I now building a Luego.

first one, Still it wasnt his. I have pinched your axle stands from work by the way LOL

good progress!! 1 question and 1 comment.
Is the square box swection for the front suspension aluminoium or steel?
I'd suggest you look into fitting some cowling from the fan to the radiator to ensure blown air is driverted to the radiator.

What guage is the metal? Any special type of rivets used? Is there any adhesive ala elise to add some extra bond to the joints?

In the Elise, the adhesive is the main joiner, the rivets are there just to prevent peel at the extremities of the runs
