Steering rack
Can anyone recommend a centered rack and pinion steering rack which can be used in LHD and RHD configuration and have power steering? If this would
not be available, any other ideas?

You could have a rack custom made? Tilton and Jack Knight make steering racks.
For power steering, I believe a few kit manufacturers are starting to use electric power assistance, from donors like Toyota MR2. If I remember right,
the assistance drives the column, rather than the rack itself, which simplifies the rack choice...
Dont just build it.....make it!

I presume you can still use a traditional pump driven steering rack but using an electrically driven pump instead of one run off a belt from the
engine? I was thinking about using this kind of kit for a mid-engined car as not sure it would be too bright running power steering hoses from the
engine through the car.

I believe the assistance is from electric motors, rather than an electric motor driving a hydraulic pump....

There are both types availble, the MR2, and the Saxo, Pug 106, Merc A-Class and many others have an electricaly driven hydraulic pump which drives a
conventional PS rack.
Other cars such as e.g. Vauxhall Corsa have direct motor drive built into the steering column. The disadvantage of this is that you need to build a
very strong column mounting.

Yup, new corsas and fiat puntos have the electric assisted column, used a lot on grasstrack cars and on a good few rally cars with great success.
The beauty is you can run a conventional quickrack which is easily available, and then use the power column to make it possible to steer it without
trips to the gym every day (not that that is an issue on a 7!)
