Plans?
Hello chaps,
I've been looking for the right donor for a Ron Champion build locost and I can't seem to get the right car. Does anyone know of any
alternative plans available for a Zetec Locost? The main reason being a Mk1/2 Escort costs more than a 94 Mondeo! I'd also like to build the
chassis from scratch rather than use a kit if possible.
Cheers,
Jon
P.S. Does anyone want a headache? I've got one going spare....

At it's most basic, do the RC chassis but graft on the Tiger Avon rear part for IRS or get GTS plans for a de dion.
Engine choice (with straight 4) is more or less irrelevant as most will fit (only prob is height with some).
Use Sierra front uprights (and mushroom inserts from one of many suppliers) and diff.

My advice, don’t bother with a donor. This is just my opinion
Build your book car and get what ever bits float your boat.
The Cortina uprights are still available if you bide your time. Expect to pay £75+ depending on condition.
Back axle, use a Cortina or Capri as they are a tad wider and cheaper £30 +.
Engine and gearbox, what ever takes your fancy
And pick the bits and bobs up as you go along. Steering racks and handbrakes ect can all be picked up new for not a lot of dosh.
This way you won’t end up with a car to dispose of. You won’t need to sorn it.
The downside you may pay a bit more and need to travel. But that’s part of the fun. Well that’s what I tell the wife when she has to read the
map.
Mines a book chassis with Cortina front, Capri back, Mondeo Zetec engine and a Sierra Mt75 box and so on.

Nice! I wasn't sure if a type 9 or Mt75 would bolt on to a zetec, but a quick google showed its easy enough to do. Nice of Ford to keep things
similar for 40 years....
Thanks for your help guys, thats fantastic.

Also try these plans out. based on RC plans, but with the errors removed.
also for wider and taller chassis.
(apparantly the RC had to introduce errors, as the original plans were too similar to a caterhams)

If you are making your own chassis then you can do and fit just about anything.
Going live axle ? then the transmision tunnel wants shifting over 20mm to give a good position.
