Opinions on my floor options please!
I've made a bit of a mistake with the materials that I have bought and I think I now have two options for the chassis floor both of which I
suspect are less than ideal!
The first is a sheet of 16gauge alli that I bought with the intention of using for the floor, problem is that I have now realised it isn't wide
enough! Its about 2 inches too narrow. The only way I could use this is to panel the floor in 3 sections, the 2 sides and then the tranny tunnel. How
might this effect the chassis, is it likely to be a problem?
The second option is a sheet of 16gauge mild steel. This is big enough but i probably would have chosen 18gauge if it had been bought for the floor.
If I used this could the seats be bolted directly to the floor or would it need some strengtheners still?
So which option? Opinions please!
Thanks

I'd just do it in two halves in the ali and if you're really concerned about the structural contribution of panelling the underside of the
tunnel (or just stopping crap getting in) add another piece for the tunnel overlapping the floor pieces.

Panel both sides of the floor with the aluminium and leave the bottom of the tunnel open, It will let the crap, oil etc. out and the heat from the
engine. If you use the steel you'll still need bearers to bolt your seats to.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Cheers for the quick replies and the answers i wanted to hear!
I thought it should be fine like that, aren't Westfields done in two pieces with the tranny tunnel open?

Next problem now is what will I use this big sheet of 16gauge mild for?

Sell it to a Locost racer who needs a steel floor.

With the weather as it is at the moment, I think it might be best employed as a roof!!!!!!
Retro RWD is the way forward...........automotive fabrication, car restoration, sheetmetal work, engine conversion
