Book Tunnel

Hi, in the Book the plans show an angled widening at the rear of the transmission tunnel to clear the diff, but many of the pictures don't feature this. Before I weld up my tunnel for my escort axle, do I need this feature? Any advice would be welcome, thanks.

Yes, it gives clearance for the diff which is offset from centre on the Escort axle. It also gives a bit more space for pipework to go past the diff.
The book shows the angle on one side only, but I did mine the same both sides because I like symmetry.

I would (did) make the tunnel 1" taller if I were you, gives better clearance for a gear lever remote.

Slightly off the topic, but make sure your uprights for the tunnel don't coincide with the wider rear section of the gearbox, caused me all kinds of problems

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

I think some of the best advice I have seen is to fab or atleast not fully weld the tunnel until the running gear is installed then make it fit.

Which axle have you got, the Capri type is offset to the driver side. Check which one you have and centre it before you proceed.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
