build update
finished painting the chassis, this is a major milestone in my build i was waiting for! im relly proud of it although there's still much work to
be done on it yet...
what you think?

now for another 3 months in storage until i find some time to continue...

looks good, but isnt there meant to be more bracing at the very front around the wishbone pickup points? Would also make it easier to add a tow point.
At least its paint not powdercoat if you do decide to add things!

That looks very nice.
I see you have not added a triangular plate to the side of the roll bar mounts. Are you not fitting a rollbar?

hmm..... does that really matter? i thought of leaving that and just bolt in the roll-over bar... if i need the triangular bit, then i will have to
weld it in, but i really don't need it do i?
JoelP, those are mods which are meant to stiffen the chassis even more, but they are really not included in either the McSorley plans or the book for
that matter, so i guess they are not that necessary?
i actually forgot about the tow point
whitestu, actually it was a bit arduous, but i enjoyed it... maybe becuase im a bit of a masochist

Is your Roll Bar there just for show? Or is it serving a functional purpose to protect the occupants in the event of a roll over?.
Answer these questions, then you willl know what to do.
Personally speaking, if going to the effort of fitting a roll bar, then I would fit it properly, as it may save you or your passengers lives. In an
open top car you should take every safety feature seriously.
Go on... You know it makes sense. (Its not a lot of extra work)
Just my 2d worth.

The triangular plate is essential even you aren't fitting a roll bar IMO. This plate takes a good percentage of the suspension loads, without
it the 4" plate on the top will flex around rather a lot.

you're right, at the start of the project i made myself a promise that i would never cut corners during the build of this car, and i was willing
to cut a corner right there with probably the most important safety item of the car. silly me

What a sensible last comment. I can't judge your chassis as i am ashamed to admit i bought mine, even though i'm a steel fabricator by
trade, but can still look and admire your work and others on this site

One small point - now you've got a top paint job, you need to go and ruin it by welding steering rack mounts on!
