Modified rear end. ¿ Any comments ?

I'm doing all the chassis with 25x25x2mm RHS and I d'ont like the standard rear end.

As I want to do it with the same tube, what do you think about this configuration ?

Cheers,

Modesto

It will make for nadsty edges unless you get a fibre glaa rear panel in which case wuou will need to drop the side and back tubes by about 1" to let the curve on the fibre glass go over the top of the square tube, you wil have to figure out a detail at the plate for the top shock absorber mounting. by the way if you put tube all around like you have shown you will have serious problems fitting a bracket for the top mount and getting a bolt in!

Good Luck!

Save altering your pic

Run a second bar across parallel to"O" It will give more options on seat belt mounts.

Look forward to seeing your body work with those corners

For the corners, just cut away the top, bottom and inside, sides of the box section in the area of the curve, and the remaining outside, side, will form the curve.
If you sheet the rear with aluminium, it'll simply fold over the top edge. Some form of boot top cover sheet will then cover the top edge.

Can't get the picture to show, see http://locostbuilders.co.uk/photos.php?action=showphoto&photo=rear panel on 1.jpg

I want to put a round piece on the corner (blue in the picture) for the rear panel I don't know how jet.

One of my doubts is the problem you say about the shock absorber mounting. In theory it seems to be posible ...

I like the 2 bar idea, I'll think about it.

JhonN, your "Rear panel & roll bar" is spectacular . I would like that my locost looked like.

I see the way you say to fit the panel in the corner.

cheers,

Modesto

Yup, I did mine in box section.

Like Big Wasa, I did the double bar for the belt mounts, apart from my threaded bosses face down.

Like JohnN for the ally.

I also have a cross frame behind the rear sheet that supports a spare wheel.
(yes, I know it's extra weight, but I like the look of it)

As you are building a BEC, why are you making the rear heavier ?

The top rail adds nothing to the cars strength so why 25x25 square ?

If you have nothing to bend the tube nicely then just pop down the local tip and hunt down some old prame frames childrens climbing frames etc and cut some tube and bends out.

I went my own way on shock mounting and the whole rear structure to get more diagonals in: Rescued attachment diff_mount2.jpg

I feel more comfortable welding 2mm tube with my arc welder.

I'm doing a BEC because the engine is small, ligth and sounds like music and if I can't pass the Spanish SVA, I will play with it in the "Circuit de Catalunya".

The difference of weight may be about 15-20 Kg aprox. 3% to 4%. (It will be better if I lose that weight .

cheers,

Modesto
