due to lending my mig out for the next couple of weeks i'm working away from the car and doing peice work to move things along so i'm lacking a point of reference.

any help would be handy.

Difficult one to answer! there is nothing in the book and a wide variety in practice. I determined mine based on the total route of the steering shafts down to the rack. It took a couple of attempts to get it right and mine runs over the footwell bulkhead and the shaft routes along the outside of the chassis crossing over and down forward and under the alternator on my Pinto. This required changing the alternator to a Micra one and building a custom bracket for it.

I also discovered that the wheel hight is very important for access in and out of the car and is absolutely dependent on the seat cushion height, I originally set it while sat on the floor of the car with a bit of foam, as soon as I put a decent seat base in I found I had to raise the column a couple of inches! I have an adjustable one so one inch was in the adjustment the other inch was gained by grinding the column support bracket and re drilling the mounting holes further up the plate! I also made my bracket pretty strong as this is what will take the force to collapse the column in case of a front ender! I am not sure that some of the brackets I have seen are strong enough for this!

Sorry that this probably doesn't help in your current situation but you could possibly make up bracketry for brake pipe mountings, radiator and quite a few spare to hang plumbing, fuel pump, fuel filter etc. etc, on. Mine are bits of 25mm X 3mm bar bent at right angles the end radiused to a semi circle and drilled either 6.5mm for general brackets and 10.5mm for brake flexies. Some could have holes both ends for bolting rather than welding to the chassis.

Hope this helps a bit!
