Crossflow engine position.
Hello all,
did you Crossflow user offset the engine to the near side? When I position my engine on the centre line (centering on the crank pulley), and mount the
engine on my (equal length) Luego mounts, the engine mount bases don't sit equally on the chassis. Am I missing something? I have measured my
chassis dims and they are spot on . I have used the engine mount chassis tubes as detailed in the Book plans.
If I off set the engine to the near side to equalise the engine mount tubes, can I keep the gearbox output centred in the tunnel, without any
vibration issues?
Note: I am using a type9 on my 1300 crossflow. The starter seems to be in a slightly different position, i.e. further round towards the deck and so
nearer my chassis rail, thus reducing that 1/2 inch clearence I need  .
Thanks for any advice. Pointers to relevent pics would be a great help

Don't worry too much about the back end of the box, as a little offset helps the uj's live longer. Also a slight offset with the engine
helps with weight distribution when you're the only one in the car.

The pre-lit Westfield 7, which the locost plans very closely resemble ;-), had the xflow engine offset towards the passenger side by 18mm from the
centre-line.
Take special care when positioning the engine that the starter, oil filter, fuel pump and dizzy cap don't foul your engine bay bracing
diagonals.

Thanks Gary,
when you say Westfiled offset the engin, do you mean in parralel to the enterline or only at the front, keeping the gearbox output centred?

Like DIY Si says there is no harm in having the engine/gbox skewed in the chassis as it helps the UJ.
I'm using a type 9 as well and it all gets very close around the bell housing/tunnel area so you may have to trial fit and see what offset/skew
fits your chassis best.

Parallel to the centre line - this means that the gearbox output shaft is also offset, which is good for the propshaft's UJs.
